US film lobby announces major changes

The Motion Picture Association of America is expanding its communications and government relations staff.

The group has appointed Alex Swartel director of global policy. She was promoted from communications consultant, and is the former communications director for US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

It has also named Brian Cohen director of external state government affairs. He first joined MPAA in June as a consultant. Previously, he was the group’s primary liaison to state and local elected officials at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office.

The association has also hired Lauren Pastarnack as director of government affairs, as well as Kate Bedinfield as director of strategic communications.
