Increasingly today, we see how the convergence of communication channels is radically changing the way that stakeholders, brands and governments interact with one another around the world. In today’s increasingly digitized world, it’s never been easier for stakeholders to interact with brands and with governments. Indeed, APCO Worldwide’s Champion Brand model has revealed a new class of stakeholders– what we call “the stakebroker.”
Stakebrokers are simultaneously consumers, community members, environmentalists, policy influencers, employees and investors. They’re far more likely (58 percent) to contact a government official about a company than the general population (11 percent), and our study shows that Asiahas a greater population of stakebrokers than almost any other region in the world. Countries such as China and India have a higher proportion of stakebrokers than more developed markets. In the 21st century, it’s clear that any successful and strong corporate brand – what APCO calls Champion Brands –will,more than ever,need a strong public affairs presence in key Asian markets to successfully harness and leverage the power of this new audience.
