LaJeunesse leaves Asia for global Google ’free expression’ role

Google’s public affairs chief in Asia Pacific Ross LaJeunesse is to leave the region in July to take up a leading global free expression role with the internet giant in Washington DC.

He leaves Google Asia Pacific after a high profile period in which he was instrumental in both building the PA team and fending off disputes with the Chinese government over web censorship.

In his new role as global head of free expression he will lead the outreach work for Google and be based in Washington DC. He will be responsible for driving relationships with key international organisations such as the UN, the OECD and the World Economic Forum.

In his current role he served as head of public policy and government affairs, Asia Pacific at Google. Prior to that he was deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In his current role at Google he has been a strong defender of open internet policies and has spoken widely on defending internet freedoms.
