Gong appointed CSR adviser by Burson-Marsteller

Burson-Marsteller has announced the appointment of David Gong as senior advisor on CSR & Sustainability.

He will advise clients on responsibility issues and practices, helping both foreign multinationals in China and Chinese companies expanding globally align their sustainability efforts with their corporate strategy and stakeholder expectations.

Gong joins the firm from BSR, a not-for-profit that works with businesses on social and environmental responsibility, where he directed the Beijing office.

Social and environmental responsibility is a key priority to the Chinese government and greatly influences their expectations of both foreign companies and Chinese multinationals.”

He added that “David is a uniquely positioned to counsel companies entering China, as well as those going abroad, on stakeholder expectations, opportunities for engagement and risk management”.

Gong said: “I am pleased to join the Burson-Marsteller China team. All companies have a responsibility to operate ethically and responsibly, but the triple bottom line is especially critical in China. Companies here are expected, by both the government and society, to leverage their core strengths to solve social and environmental challenges.”

Gong has over 14 years of technology business creation and operational experience in the high tech, retail and cleantech sectors.

He has advised and worked for Fortune 500 companies like Schlumberger and Home Depot, collaborated with government agencies like the China Ministry of Science  and Technology, China Association For Science and Technology, the US Department of Energy and the US Department of Commerce and worked with non-governmental-organizations such as BSR and US-China Green Energy Council.

The firm currently advises on CSR strategy and implements CSR programmes for clients in the automobile, telecom, airline and energy sectors.

In addition to working closely with the Burson-Marsteller China leadership team, Gong will work with Daisy King, who leads Burson-Marsteller’s New York-based US-China specialty practice.
