NEW CONSULTANCY OF THE YEAR
Echo was started in May 2017 after Myanmar’s press was opened up and the media relations profession was just emerging. It was founded by Anthony Larmon, who had previously worked at Edelman and FleishmanHillard in reputation management/media relations capacities.
Echo Myanmar’s narrative is not unlike that of the country in which it operates and it was incorporated to satisfy an unmet demand for professional communications. Previously, PR agencies were operating tactically rather than strategically, so the message- and stakeholder-centric approaches proved a success among leading organisations, with innovations such as social newsrooms — private Facebook groups for client target media.
Echo has grown to 35 professionals, of which only five are expatriates. Its roster of corporate communications, public affairs and media relations clients won since last year include big names such as Coca-Cola, FrieslandCampina, Abbott, Microsoft, a one-year renewal by leading telco Myanmar Post and Telecommunications, Uber Technologies, Facebook and Volkswagen. Many of these are also with the agency for social media and online reputation management.
Echo’s underdog spirit, coupled with a background of communications excellence, has worked wonders in Myanmar’s communications landscape and it is now the biggest PR consultancy in the country, independent or network.
