Gold Standard Awards to honour industry leaders

A wide range of  professionals from the world of corporate affairs, communications, government and the policymaking community have secured coveted places on the 2013 Gold Standard Awards shortlist.

In the category of The Gold Standard Award for Professional Excellence, four senior practitioners are recognised. Vying for the award are Rachel Catanach, Senior Vice President, FleishmanHillard, Hong Kong, Roberto Kanapi, Vice President for Communications, Shell Philippines, Ross Rowbury, President & CEO, Edelman Japan and Pushpanathan Sundram, Managing Director of EAS Asia, Singapore and former Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The Gold Standard Award for Communicator of the Year, which honours communications’ excellence outside of the public affairs industry, sees two business and two government figures making the shortlist.  In the final stages are Shinzo Abe, The Prime Minister of Japan, Aziz Huq, Managing Director, GSK Bangladesh, Gary Locke, The US Ambassador to China and Edgar O. Chua, Country Chairman of the Shell companies in the Philippines.

In the new category of policymaker of the year, Manish Tewari, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in India, Ma Ying-jeou, President of Taiwan and The Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia are in contention for recognition of their achievements.

Commenting on the award shortlists, Mark O’Brien, PublicAffairsAsia Vice President, said: “This year we attracted a record number of  high quality nominations and the judges had an extremely tough task forming The Gold Standard Awards shortlist. The public affairs and corporate communications profession has personal excellence at its core and a group of individuals of diverse distinction have reached our shortlists.”

The result of the award will be announced at a gala cocktail reception held in Hong Kong on Thursday, December 5.
