Gold Standard Awards shortlist highlights industry achievers

The first nominees to make the shortlist for the 2012 PublicAffairsAsia Gold Standard Awards have been announced ahead of the formal shortlist announcement and the ceremony on December 6, 2012.

The final shortlist selections are currently being assessed and the developing shortlist can be viewed here.

In the coveted Gold Standard Award for Professional Excellence three industry leaders are in pole position: they are Evan Lewis, Vice President of Communications, Accor Asia Pacific, Geoff Rodgers, Founder and Chairman of Rowland and  Shin Tanaka, President and Senior Partner, Japan at Fleishman-Hillard Inc.

In the new Yahoo! Internet for Good award the nominees are OurSay.org, which seeks to use the power of social media to revitalise critical participation in Australian democracy. Also nominated are the People of Fukushima for their use of social media to extend access to the Fukushima conference. The third nonimnee is Sonokids Australia for its efforts including the online All Abilities ePlayground.

In house team of the year the nominees are ClubsNSW In-house Policy and Government Relations Team, The Executive Centre’s Corporate Communications Team and PricewaterhouseCoopers Marketing and Communications Team in China and Hong Kong.

In the high profile category of The Gold Standard Award for Diplomatic Engagement the nominees shortlisted are Ambassador Adelman and the US Embassy in Singapore, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in Indonesia and US Ambassador to Japan John V. Roos, the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Tokyo for the TOMODACHI Initiative.

The widely recognised Gold Standard Award for Issues and Crisis Management sees three leading firms going forward to final selection. They include DBS Bank for its work in maintaining confidence following unauthorised ATM withdrawals in Malaysia.

McDonald’s China makes the grade for this response to to CCTV’s Consumer Rights Day Report. Also in contention is Perfect Relations Pvt. Ltd for its efforts to help Telenor through a $35 billion crisis.

In the category of The Gold Standard Award for NGO engagement, three nominees now go forward. They are ECPAT International for the STOP Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People campaign in partnership with The Body Shop, The Kaya Natin Movement For Ethical Leadership and Good Governance: Health Leaders 4 Mother’s Project in partnership with MSD and  the Tuloy Foundation for its drive to reverse the plight of poor and abandoned children in the Philippines.

As the judges determine the shortlist in the remaining categories one other shortlist result is also published. In specialist consultancy of the year three nominees now go through to the final selection phase. The nominees are Financial PR Pte Ltd, ICON International Communications and Strategic Public Relations Group.

In the remaining categories the final judges shortlist scores are being weighed up and will be released in the next 48 hours.

The Gold Standard Awards are presented at an extended awards cocktail and networking reception taking place at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong on December 6, 2012.
