Ferrero joins Asia food industry group

Global chocolate and confectionary company Ferrero has joined Food Industry Asia, the regional advocacy group for the food industry.

The move brings the organisation’s membership to 18 of the world’s most influential food and beverage companies.

Ferrero has a total of 20 factories, 41 headquarters and operational sites in 5 continents, which employ around 22,000 people and will be represented at FIA by Luca Cico, General Manager North Asia, Angelo Giardini, General Manager China and Mauro Mantovani, General Manager South East Asia

Cico said the FIA had shown a proven ability to bring the industry together on issues of common interest.

“We are delighted to join this impressive group of business leaders as together we address some of the non-competitive issues that are unique to our industry,” he said. “Asia includes some of our most diverse and fastest-growing markets in the world right now, and we are excited by the opportunity to contribute to the region’s development.”

Commenting on Ferrero’s membership, Bev Postma, FIA’s Executive Director said: “As one of the strongest global confectionary brands, they bring additional expertise to industry’s collective efforts on key food and beverage issues in Asia. From food safety issues to regulatory harmonisation, our growing membership continues to strengthen FIA’s ability to bring mutual benefit to industry, consumers and governments.”

The move comes as Food Industry Asia prepares to convene trade experts and food industry leaders for next month’s Food Industry Summit for ASEAN.

Hosted by FIA and supported by the Indonesian Food & Beverage Association (GAPMMI), the summit will address the most pressing trade issues for the food industry, including the harmonisation of food standards and the removal of technical barriers to trade.

Dr Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of ASEAN, will be the guest of honour at this non-profit event, which will include the launch of a ground-breaking report on harmonisation in ASEAN.
