Edelman appoints new training chief for Japan


Edelman Japan K.K., the fully owned Japanese subsidiary of Edelman kas announced that it has hired Ian Messer as director, communications training group to lead its training team in Japan.

Messer brings more than 15 years of public relations and news media experience in the Japanese market.

A seasoned media and crisis communications trainer, Messer has trained many top corporate leaders and government officials in effective engagement with media and other key stakeholders.

A former news reporter for Bloomberg News and Dow Jones Newswires, Messer has trained spokespeople from a wide range of business sectors including financial services, automotive, hospitality, information technology, healthcare and luxury goods.

He has navigated clients through the communications challenges posed by merger & acquisitions, corporate restructuring, product recalls, litigation, personnel issues and leadership change.

Prior to joining Edelman, n served as an SVP at Weber Shandwick in Tokyo, where he launched a new practice team. Previously, he spent six years at PRAP Japan Inc. where signature work included campaigns for high-profile proxy contests and multi-billion dollar M&A deals.

A UK national Messer is a graduate of the University of Sheffield’s School of East Asian Studies, earning his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Japanese Studies.

Based in Japan for more than two decades, Ian is a fluent speaker and reader of Japanese.
