Dow Jones and PAA explore social media impact

Dow Jones and PublicAffairsAsia have completed
a three-city roundtable series on social media and corporate affairs ahead of
the publication of a short white paper on the issue.

PublicAffairsAsia moderated the three session
series which heard top-level practitioners examine what impact the
proliferation of new and traditional media is having on corporate communicators
and government relations pracititoners representing MNCs and key Asian
corporations.

Commenting on the series, PublicAffairsAsia’s
executive director, Craig Hoy said: “At each event we heard how practitioners
are responding to the shift in the media and stakeholder landscape in China. In
many senses these changes are creating new challenges. The industry is
responding to them in an -innovative way, viewing these new  media as a new opportunity to engage and
influence key stakeholders.”

The event was  firstly held at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney
where senior level practitioners from companies including Rio Tinto, Deloitte,
Kreab Gavin Anderson, Woolworths Limited, UGL Limited, Deutsche Bank, The
Australian Coal Association and Google were present

Following that, the event focus shifted to The
Fullerton Hotel in Singapore where top-level South East Asia representatives
examined the impact of the changing media landscape in this rapidly developing
region.

Among the corporations represented were KKR,
Visa, Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd, Syngenta, TNT, NOL Limited, MasterCard, Ruder
Finn and Diageo.

The series rounded off at The American Club in
Hong Kong in mid-May with a top-level breakfast briefing where the focus
shifted to financial services and the rise of social media in mainland China.

Among the group were senior representatives from
Standard Chartered, Philips, Alibaba, BASF, AIA Group, Ketchum, Pernod Ricard
Asia, Sateri, Ernst and Young and the Prudential Assurance Company.

A four-page special report white paper will be
published in soft copy by PublicAffairsAsia in mid-June.
