APAC Advisors, the government relations, policy and sustainability consultancy founded by Steven Okun, today announces two strategic agreements which will empower clients, ranging from global corporations to social enterprises and NGOs, to operate at the intersection of business, government and media.

The firm will enter into a strategic partnership to expand and deepen the Asia Pacific regional presence of McLarty Associates. In addition, the firm also announces it has become the ASEAN Representative of EMPEA, the global industry association for private capital in emerging markets.

Mr. Okun will serve as a senior advisor to the firm in the Asia Pacific region.

Through its second agreement, APAC Advisors will be responsible for strengthening EMPEA’s footprint in Emerging Asia, the region with the largest share of emerging market private capital activity. In this capacity Mr. Okun will work as the regional advocate for private equity firms and other funds, their investors and service providers to increase investment opportunities across Southeast Asia.

He has served as Chairman of both the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and the Asia-wide Asian Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce, and currently sits on both boards. He is also Chairman of the AmCham Singapore TPP Task Force.

From 2011-2017, as KKR’s first Director of Asia Pacific Public Affairs, his responsibilities encompassed government affairs, communications, stakeholder engagement and environmental and social responsibility issues. Mr. Okun led UPS Asia’s public affairs activities on aviation and trade from 2003-2010, and worked in UPS’ Washington, D.C., office prior to that appointment.

He served in the Administration of President Bill Clinton as Deputy General Counsel at the US Department of Transportation, working in the government from 1993-1999. He was awarded the Secretary’s Award for Special Service Commendation.

Mr. Okun is a sought-after speaker and broadcaster, representing and advocating the views of the US business community on CNBC and Channel NewsAsia.
