Bell Pottinger announces Asia expansion

- -

Bell Pottinger has announced three new senior appointments in South East Asia as it beefs up its presence across the region.

Mark Worthington, Head of Corporate Practice in Singapore since 2012, has been promoted to Managing Director of Bell Pottinger Singapore.

Reporting to Mark, John Wong, has joined Bell Pottinger to head the Financial Practice in Singapore. Wong was previously Head of Investor Relations at Biosensors International.

Seperately, former editorial leader writer and columnist with The Times in London, Graham Stewart has been appointed to head Bell Pottinger’s latest office opening in Myanmar as Managing Director.

The three appointments come three months after Bell Pottinger announced the recruitment of the former senior British diplomat Mark Canning as Senior Advisor.

Canning served as Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Myanmar and Indonesia as well as Britain’s permanent representative to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). His previous assignments also included Malaysia and Indonesia.

The appointments in Singapore will enable Asia Chairman Piers Pottinger and CEO Asia Ang Shih-Huei to concentrate on further growth of the overall Asian business and explore opportunities in new markets.

Piers Pottinger, Chairman of Bell Pottinger Asia, says: “Our Asia business is a clear priority for our growth moving forward and we are totally committed to building on our success in the region to date. These new appointments reflect our commitment to both recognise tremendous contributions to our business and add new talent to bring further strength and depth to our team.”

Worthington joined Bell Pottinger in 2012. He is a former BBC News Correspondent with more than 10 years of national and international journalism experience in Asia and Europe. He was trained on the BBC’s prestigious news trainee scheme and has also worked as an international Television News Producer for TBS Japan.

Graham Stewart has over 20 years of experience in the media and public affairs, and spent ten years at The Times. He has worked in London, Yangon and in the financial sector in Singapore – where he provided research and corporate communications advice to a leading private investor.

John Wong was Head of Investor Relations at Biosensors International for four years, and previously in charge of corporate affairs and business development at SMRT Corporation, the largest transport operator in Singapore. He is a former financial journalist with Mediacorp News.
